About the Founder

Hi, I’m Mauie 😆 the founder of Sokawaii.

SoKawaii started in 2019, shortly after I turned 20. Back then, I loved eyelash extensions but couldn’t keep up with the cost, the time, or the way they held up in real life — especially here in Hawai‘i.

The moment that changed everything happened on a surf date with my now-partner. I had a full set of extensions on, and the ocean absolutely destroyed them. Salt water, wind, stinging eyes — everything was coming off. It was funny later, but in the moment I remember thinking: there has to be a better way.

That’s when the idea for SoKawaii was born — lashes that feel good, look good, and can actually handle real life🥹

In early 2020, I made my first product: handmade lash clusters sold through Instagram DMs. Then COVID hit. While everything else shut down, SoKawaii became the one thing I could keep building. I created custom sets, sent tutorial videos to customers, and slowly grew a small but loyal community that believed in what I was creating.

By 2021, I launched my first official website — and from that point on, SoKawaii became something real. I kept designing, testing, and hand-making every set while dreaming of the day I could scale without losing the quality that made people fall in love with the brand.

Fast forward to today: SoKawaii has grown into a full collection. I finally have the resources, support, and team to create at the level I’ve always envisioned — with more lashes per box, better accessibility, and the same waterproof, comfy, made-to-move-with-you quality we’ve had since day one💖

SoKawaii has never been just about lashes. It’s about confidence, comfort, and creating lashes that actually fit your life — not the other way around.
